Roast: Light/Medium- This is a light/medium roast 100% Kona made for the watchstander’s mug: deeper roast character, a heavier-hitting finish, and the kind of cup that doesn’t need a motivational speech to do its job.

Captain’s Reserve: Kona Huakaʻi is our leeward voyage to Hawaiʻi Island—straight into legendary Kona coffee country. In Hawaiian, kona points to the leeward side of an island, and huakaʻi means a trip / voyage / journey.

Not all coffee grown on the Big Island of Hawaii is Kona coffee. Kona Coffee comes from a famously tight farming zone often called the Kona coffee belt—a narrow strip roughly 20 miles long and 2 miles wide, generally sitting between about 700 and 2,000 feet in elevation.

For this Huakaʻi, we set our course for a Cornwell-owned, family-run Kona estate in Holualoa, perched on the western volcanic slopes above the Kona coast—where dark volcanic soil, sunny mornings, and cloudy afternoons help shape the classic Kona cup. The coffee is grown and processed on the estate pesticide free, then sun-dried three to seven days to ensure a flawless cup.

With respect to that leeward heritage, we opened the Old Salt playbook and produced a fitting brew: 100% Kona, light–medium roasted, and built for Shipmates who want a cup with backbone.
