His legacy continues today through his grandson, Oswaldo, who adheres to his life-long principles: generosity, integrity, and the search for perfection. Café Mesa de Los Santos thanks their customers for supporting a fair compensation program that pays wages well above the Colombian minimum salary to the 310 hardworking campesinos producing this coffee. Other benefits to the workers are: free health care for the workers and their 548 family members, education allowance for children, insurance coverage for temporary or permanent work disability, and a pension fund to provide retirement benefits. The producers of Cafe Organico Mesa de los Santos, concerned about nature and the environment, have obtained BioLatina certification after more than three years of effort. During this period, measures including no-chemical utilization during production and the implementation of an ornithological program to guarantee native and migratory bird protection, have been adopted. Cafe Organico Mesa de los Santos is planted with banana and a variety of different shade trees, to provide food and habitat to native and migratory birds in the coffee plantation, working as an effective control against plague and insects. This coffee is certified USDA Organic, Smithsonian Institution Bird Friendly” and Rainforest Alliance Fairtrade.
