A vibrant and playful Amazigh rug from the Azilal region, made from local handspun wool alongside colourful recycled industrial yarn, typical of many Azilal carpets. The lively chevron motifs feature a palette that includes various shades of blue along with orange, pink, red, and yellow, with small accents of purple and green yarn at the top and bottom of the rug.
The rug is in overall good condition given its age, but it is worth noting that it has some small areas of missing pile as well as a few minor wax or earth stains, all of which are shown in the images. The wool varies in colour throughout, with some knots in cream and others in a very light brown, including a central line of slightly darker cream wool running through the middle of the rug.
With acknowledgement and gratitude for the woman weaver who conceptualised and crafted this unique item. Please take the time to discover more about the Amazigh (\'Berber\') weaving tradition here.
Age: 1980s–1990s.
Size: 210 cm × 135 cm.
Material: Local handspun wool; multi-coloured recycled industrial yarn, often sourced from clothing remnants.
Condition: Very good used condition, with mild traces of wear and a pleasing vintage patina. There is slight wear to the edges where the wool pile has warn, with the weft now being visible in a few places however these are still structurally entirely sound. There are a few small stains appropriate to its age and previous domestic use. Please note that the darker parts of the pile are not stains but rather the intentional use of darker wool throughout. The weaver has chosen to use this wool, particualrly visible in the central part of the weft and on some scattered dots throughout, for interest.
Please be advised that all items in our Vintage Collection are second-hand pieces, which means that they may have had significant previous use. Marks, stains, bumps, dents and wear that are cosmetic are part of the nature of vintage pieces and are therefore not recognised as defects. Only items where the function of the piece is impacted will be considered damaged. All cosmetic marks and signs of wear are part of the natural character of vintage pieces. If you are not comfortable with used or worn pieces, our standard collection may be more appealing.
Due to their large size, the vintage Moroccan carpets only ship to the UK as standard. For international orders, please contact hello@elleihome.com for a shipping quote.
